Young Blood Gallery on Unanimous Craft

Young Blood Gallery and Boutique is the foremost independent showcase in Atlanta for emerging artists and Do-It-Yourself crafters. Young Blood was born in 1997 in the home of Maggie White and Kelly Teasley when the two grew tired of the Atlanta art gallery establishment’s refusal to exhibit incredibly talented – though unknown – local artists. The response was enormous, and for two years White and Teasley’s home exhibitions would be overrun with art-hungry patrons. In 1999 Young Blood became a permanent fixture in Atlanta’s burgeoning underground art community when the gallery opened in Grant Park. Since then, Young Blood has led an explosion in independent galleries, while remaining at the forefront of cutting-edge art. Young Blood has garnered dozens of news articles, in publications such as Creative Loafing, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Lucky magazine, recognizing the gallery’s early support for the indie craft movement and graffiti as an art form. Young Blood expanded its space in January of 2003 when White and Teasley converted studio space beside the gallery into a shop featuring items that are hand made or designed by artists. In the past decade the gallery has introduced Atlantans to hundreds of up-and-coming artists whose works are now collected and sought-after around the country. In May of 2008, Young Blood re-located and expanded into a larger and more accessible space in the Poncey-Highlands district. With art openings the first Saturday of each month, and Kraftwork, a crafts market featuring handmade merchandise crafted by rising designers and artists on the first Thursday of each month, Young Blood gives Atlantans the chance to find creations that can be found no where else.

On my trip through Atlanta I made sure to stop by Young Blood Gallery and Boutique. It was a great find and when I entered the shop I was immediately entranced by all the cool things in sight. There were many interesting and unique products and the walls were adorned with artwork. I ended up picking up a few things and will definitely stop by again whenever I am in the area.
