I really cannot believe it took me this long to find Swap-bot. I love snail mail. I love sending it. I love getting it. I love going to the post office. I love stamps. I love everything about it. Sometimes when I want to get a group together to go out for beers, I'll send them postcards instead of emails.

So...all that just to set up how excited I was to find a website that sets up crafty exchanges through the mail.

DROOL.
I signed up immediately and got myself enrolled in a newbie swap to build up some cred and you can be sure this will be a regular part of my life from this point on.

Yay Swap-bot!

i love Swap-bot! i'm totally addicted to it and visit the site everyday... multiple times a day. i always am at my maximum number of swaps and have many more on my watchlist (you can watch swaps and add them after you've sent some of your other swaps). it's a great site when you can swap everything thing and anything... from postcards to stickers to craft supplies to handmade crafts to books to candy.

my favorite swaps are the themed craft swaps (like, make a postcard based on a book), postcard swaps (i love seeing the rest of the world), and tea swaps (how many different kinds of tea do you think there are in the world?).

the swaps have requirements and guidelines on what to send and who can join (if it's regional), then it randomly gives you a partner to send to and receive from. it lets you keep a good profile (so you can tell people who you are, what you like/don't like) and has a rating system to try to keep people honest (you rate the person you receive a swap from).

another great feature are the groups. you can join groups based on your interests, like sewing, knitting, kawaii, paper crafts, etc. then within the group there are discussions/forums and swaps (only for people in the group). i like doing group swaps, because you start getting to know people within the group and learn to trust them more, so you can do higher value or time consuming swaps and not worry about getting "flaked" on (when somebody doesn't send you a swap).

i highly recommend Swap-bot for anybody that looks to get mail... people that love to give gifts... and people like me that love a little bit of inspiration to get them crafting.

i hope you'll join the Swap-bot community! we'd love to see you there!

Did you ever have a pen pal? I did when I was a child. I found her name in the pen pal page at the back of an Archie comic. I remember the joy I felt when there was a letter in the mailbox "just for me"! I remember the fun of getting to know someone from across the world. As a teen, I remember writing letters every week to friends and family. Again, I remember how wonderful it was to "hear" from them and to write back and tell them what was happening in my life.

Somewhere along the line, letter writing became less of a priority. Then the internet came along, and email was all the rage. Snail mail became almost obsolete, just the occasional letter, birthday card, or holiday greeting.

Last year, my youngest daughter got a pen pal as a class assignment. Her excitement brought back so many fond memories. I decided to encourage her, by finding a pen pal of my own. What I found, along with a pen pal, was the Swap-bot community.

I've been wanting to write a review for weeks, but wasn't sure quite what to write. This morning I wrote a note to a Swap-bot friend. After writing the note, I realized that it would work for a review. So, here goes:

To some, Swap-bot is just a place to "trade stuff".

To others, it is so much more than just a website.

Swap-bot is a place that fuels creativity;

A place that encourages individuality;

A place where one can find inspiration, not just for artistic endeavors, but also for life;

A place that gives confidence in a time when you have none;

A place that cheers the disheartened;

A place where one can receive support when it's needed most;

A place that stimulates the imagination;

A place that prompts action;

A place to celebrate;

A place to be heard;

And above all, a place where a stranger can quickly become a friend.
