Stitches Classes are Awesome

I just finished the first day of my first sewing class at Stitches in Seattle, WA. I had been meaning to sign up for quite awhile, but whenever I would think of it -- the classes were already full. So, a few months back, I decided to plan ahead a bit (a new thing for me) and find a date that would work. I chose an beginner class because I wasn't sure where I fit into the expertise spectrum. I've been sewing forever -- but more of a made-up kind of sewing than actually following rules or conventions. This class is for pajama pants. Yay! There's not much I love more than a good pair of Jammie Pants.

When I signed up for the class, I picked out my fabric. That's like the very, very, very best thing about Stitches. They have the best fabric in the city. Hands down. It's more of a boutique kind of shop -not a huge fabric metropolis - so they have really special things that you won't find anywhere else.

My teacher was Danial Hellman and he did a great job. I thought that a beginner class might be a little too beginner for me but I was wrong. Daniel went through all the parts of the pattern, from the catalog to measuring yourself to the size of the finished piece. I learned a lot.

The only downsides: The classes seem to fill up really quickly and it will end up being a really expensive pair of pajama pants. Between the class fee ($45) and the fabric ($40) and the pattern and notions ($35) -- I could have bought 500 pairs of pajama pants from Old Navy. But then, who wants a bunch of mass produced crap? Not me. Plus, you're really buying the knowledge and expertise that you gain while making the jammie pants -- which makes them totally worth the $$.

Not only do they have fun fabric and yarn - they have a great notions / tool wall! Clover tools for everyone, plus a few I haven't found anywhere else! It's nice to have a store like this in the city, close to other independent shops and coffee shops.
