A Spreadsheet to Calculate Your COGS
Location
So, what’s a girl to do when she becomes obsessed with fees and percentages and COGS? If you’re me, then what you do is make an Excel Spreadsheet! I thought long and hard about the best way to put this spreadsheet together, and then I tested it out on some of my crafty cohorts and got some feedback. I even got a little help from my friend Tania at The Curios Canvas, and we made some additional adjustments and now that annoying math which many of you ignore has been made simple! Now, for this spreadsheet to work for you, you do need to have your material costs at hand, and you need to know what you charge for labor and how long it takes to make something. You’ll enter your material costs and labor and the spreadsheet will give you a nice little total of labor and material costs. The bottom half of the spreadsheet is where the real magic happens. Once you’ve plugged in your material and labor costs, the spreadsheet is going to calculate your wholesale costs and retail costs based on the most commonly used calculations. You choose whether or not to add on the Etsy listing fee and percentage for when the item sells, and the spreadsheet adds the PayPal fees, too! And, if that weren’t awesome enough, you can also enter in your state’s sales tax and get a final retail price with tax figured in, which is really good to know for craft fairs! VERY Helpful Tool!
Wow, Martha does it again! This spreadsheet is a very valuable tool for any independent business owner. I for one do not enjoy the technical aspects that include a bunch of math & headaches.
That's what makes this spreadsheet so wonderful - it does the hard work for you! Purchasing the spreadsheet is an easy & quick process and well worth it.
