Ornamentea
Location
Ornamentea began as Bedizen Ornaments, a jewelry designing company, started by Cynthia Deis in the kitchen of a tiny pink house in Raleigh, North Carolina. Cynthia loved making pretty accessories out of vintage buttons, antique copper chain and hand dyed ribbons and she shared her creations with the world under the trade name, Bedizen. She began selling her work to one local boutique in 1995 and within a year found herself in Manhattan, taking orders from boutiques and catalogs all around the world. Beads and trims filled the pink house and her patient husband saw his back yard draped in ribbon drying from a fresh dye bath and his bathroom sink filled with chain soaking to remove years of accumulated gunk before being fashioned into some thing new and pretty.
The cats slept on the shipping boxes; the delivery guy learned that if no one answered the door he could walk around back and see the entire staff having a meeting on the back porch. The business soon outgrew that kitchen counter and moved to a little studio in downtown Raleigh. Cynthia still walked to work, but now she needed to wear shoes.

Yay for Ornamentea!
I just moved away from Raleigh, where the Ornamentea store is, and it's one of the things I miss most. Cynthia, the owner, runs the kind of store you don't find in many places, but should. There is a big focus on beading, but she has so many other things for crafters: felting supplies, mixed media, books, crafty papers, soldering, glitter, trinkets... If you're in the area, she also offers all kinds of classes to dip your toe into something new. Even if I didn't need anything, I would make a trip to Ornamentea just to get the creative urges going. Bonus points were awarded when she also offered kits last season to make Christmas tiaras with all kinds of retro-ornamental goodies. I love my crown so much I could just spit. Check it out!

Tons of little pretty things to make your projects prettier. I personally like the layout and look of the site. Vintage lucite flowers, watch parts, felt beads & more. Great customer service which is always great!

the best thing about the site is that there are tutorials and projects to keep you inspired. they sell most of the supplies for the projects and give good instructions on how to make some pretty jewelry!
i recommend this site for some very unique ideas and supplies. they really are a delight to deal with.

I haven't ordered yet but I found them in "steampunk Style Jewelry" and I love how you can find items by type of metal and style. Only thing I'd like is if more items were in stock or if it at least said so before clicking to order. But you can be emailed when they get the item back in.

I work close enough to Ornamentea to visit the store on my lunch hour. They always have what I need to finish any project for my little Etsy store, MarthaMaryJewelry.etsy.com. The staff is always willing and able to answer any questions.
