Review of Handmade Nation
I haven't yet seen Handmade Nation, but I want to. I've seen many snippets & reviews & it looks like a great portrait of the handmade movement, in the US. I can't wait to get the DVD. I hear it's out or will be, very soon...
Inspirational
I had the pleasure of meeting director Faythe Levine both during the filming of Handmade Nation, at Craft Congress in 2007 in Pittsburgh, and for the New Orleans premiere of the film, which the New Orleans Craft Mafia co-sponsored. Now that I've seen the film twice, each time I'm blown away by how amazing it is to see this community on screen. It's such an inspiration to see the stories of these people you've known or known of online for so long, and to see this community portrayed on film. Sometimes in the real world it's hard for people to understand exactly what "indie craft" and this new craft movement is all about, so it's nice to see a film full of nothing but people who you can identify completely with.
Review of Handmade Nation
A beautiful sunny weekend afternoon in Seattle I had the chance to see this film. I walked away inspired.
It can be too easy to get caught up with quickly buying materials for my small business. After seeing this film I spent more time being true do my DIY nature and not worrying about "the big guys"

A fun to watch film that tells the stories of several indie crafters/artists. How they got their start, how they grow their business, how they are finding success. Inspiring and helpful!

The craft revolution is upon us! What a fabulous and inspiring film. My husband and I both make our living through art, craft and design. It's such an amazing feeling to be in control of your own happiness and finances.
The people featured in this documentary are crafty trailblazers and one can't help but start planning the next project while halfway through watching :) I recommend buying the DVD and supporting Faythe on her next project.
