etsy newbie
I am an etsy newbie but I am hopeful that it will generate more traffic to my online store, www.bellavitajewelry.net.
I decided to do etsy too for more exposure b/c you never know when you might pop up in an search.
ETSY ROCKS!
About 2 1/2 years ago I was looking to sell my handmade items on line. My daughter's then-boyfriend told her about Etsy and she told me. I checked it out and was so impressed that I opened a shop immediately.
My first concern was their fees....Etsy's fees are so low that you hardly notice. 20 cents to list an item is a wonderful thng!
My next concern was how to set up my shop....once again, so-o-o easy...they literally walk you through the process...how to make a banner, how to edit the pictures, how to find answers in the forums. In no time I had my shop up and running.
The most important aspect of using Etsy, for me anyway, is the connections and friends I have made by being bold and sending convos to other Etsy sellers. And from this several other sellers and I now share links to each other's shops in our announcements.
I do not have an online shop with any other site. I don't know if this is smart, but I am HAPPY with Etsy....the how-to's, the forums, the friends. Yes, folks, ETSY ROCKS!!
Etsy: Inspirational
I always get inspired to create after watching the newly listed items pop up on the home page. It's so exciting to see so many different things people create.
Review of Etsy
Granted, there's some grumblings in the forums from time to time (okay - all the time) but it's hard to argue with the traffic they generate to my shop.

Etsy is a super way to step into selling your handmade work online. Also great for networking!
Review of Etsy
Etsy is a great place for sellers, particularly those who are new to selling online. The shops are easy to set up & require little expense. The fee structure is inexpensive, compared to other online venues & it's probably the best know site.
The caveats that I would have is that many of the categories are HUGE & it's hard to get noticed in a sea of other sellers. Most of the advertising will have to be done by the seller & this is the real cost, as it's time consuming. Some of the other sites offer more help in this regard, but as I said, they cost more, particularly at first, when you're not listing or selling large numbers of things, so this is a compromise.
The forums on Etsy can be a great help or not, depending on venue & who is responding at the time, but they are a (free) way to get your name out there. Buyers sometimes wander in & sellers can be buyers, also! Etsy also has a very large resource "library" of advice. Etsy is always working on improvements & additions that make the site a better place for buyers & sellers. All in all, a great place to sell.
Review of Etsy
Even though many of us hard core long time indie crafters & artists have been aware of its existence. There's still loads of people who are just now discovering it!
It's great to see and hear their excitement about the site and the great finds that are there. Its been a great resource of crafters & indie artists to showcase their own works as well as providing a format for "meeting" fellow crafters.
Like the title of another review of this resource- what's not to love?
Review of Etsy
As has been said by the other reviewers, Etsy is a great tool for the fast-growing, global handmade nation. It offers indie crafters a place to sell their creations online without having to know how to design or maintain a website. What an excellent idea! That said, it is not always easy to sell there. You have to work really hard to make yourself known and carve out a niche for yourself and your designs. But then, anything worth doing is worth working hard at, right?!
