Beading for a Cure is a non-profit group dedicated to the memory of Layne Shilling, a bead artist who died of colorectal cancer. Since 2002, the group has hosted an annual competition which invites bead artists to create something special using a pre-selected kit. Each artist uses the same materials to create their own unique project, which is auctioned off. The proceeds are donated in Layn'e name to cancer research. This year there are also prizes.

Beading for a Cure I love this project because it is such an excellent example of the lasting power that friendship has, and it also demonstrates how art can be a powerful tool for healing.
