Urban Folk Art Show This Weekend: Indiana
Tomorrow at 5pm, the first ever Urban Folk Art Show in Indiana kicks off, and the 30 or so vendors who will be in attendance are really hoping it kicks off with a bang and not a whimper. There's been quite a bit of controversy surrounding the Urban Folk Art Shows name ever since it popped on the scene sometime late last year.
If you want to know more about the Urban Folk Art show and the controversy, you should read this post by Rosalie Gale, owner of Unanimous Craft and Shower Art, who set up a booth at the UFA show in Hillsdale, OR. (And read the comments, too!)
If you are less curious about the controversy, and more curious about the show it self because you would like to be a shopper, here are some details:
Lately, you might have heard a folksy jingle for the show on 92.3 WTTS or seen a billboard as far south in Indianapolis as 465 and 74, or possibly even seen the ad in this week's Nuvo. Admittedly, there has been no lack of advertisement for this show.
The show runs from 5pm-9pm on Friday, November 4th, 10am-5pm on Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
The show is taking place in Carmel, Indiana at the Monon Community Center, located at 1195 Central Park Drive West. My Google map skills indicate to me that this is off 111th street, in case you aren't familiar with the area. (You won't see this address on the Facebook event page, so consider my research a gift to you).
The UFA folks have a wide variety of activities planned including cake decorating demonstrations, quilt demonstrations by the Indianapolis Modern Quilt Guild, and the website ensures us that "Hotdog-on-a-stick and paper bag book DIY projects" will take place all three days.
When you arrive, you'll need to be ready to pay a $4 admission to the show, but you can bring some canned food and get $1 off your admission. Admission gets you a wrist band good for all 3 days of the event and an Urban Folk Art tote bag.
And, I've got some breaking news for you. Crafty as I am (and this time I mean sneaky-crafty) I have finally obtained a full vendor list for the show. I promise, you (probably) won't see this anyplace else!

I am anxious to see the work of many of the other artists and crafters who's work I have never seen, so I'll be heading up to the show myself to check it out this weekend.
I'd love to know your thoughts on the show, too. If you are in Indy/Carmel, are you going to the show? If not, why?
