Tucked away in a sparsely inhabited strip mall in the Sunnyland neighborhood is this magical gem: Two Thimbles Quilt Shop. Every time I've ever been there, no matter how busy, whoever is behind the counter always says hello. While I'm more of a lurker than a need-helper, I really appreciate the offer of help if I do decide I need it. If only to seem less creepy when I gently pet the fabric and drool.

You can tell that the fabric selection is very personal; by that, I mean it's obviously hand picked and displayed beautifully. I always appreciate a fine display in a fabric store! They specialize in Civil War reproduction prints and have a wonderful selection of batiks.

If that's not your thing, there's a variety of contemporary designer fabrics (Carolyn Gavin, Heather Bailey, MoMo to name a few), notions, books, and patterns. You'll also notice that they have a thing for apron projects! Another great aspect of this cozy shop is the huge classroom, and the classes that go with it. The class list is updated monthly and is available on the website in PDF form.

Insider tip: sometimes, during the quarterly sales, they have COOKIES. Sometimes, randomly, they just have COOKIES. For reals. Cookies + fabric = one happy camper.
